Baseball TeamPrograma Promoviendo Buena Salud (Programa) is a community center-based, culturally appropriate mental health program. In 2000, St. Mary's Family Practice received a three-year grant from Colorado Trust to design and implement mental health services for the Hispanic population in Mesa County. The program was housed inside CMS. At the end of the grant period, CMS' board of directors decided to adopt Progarma as a part of CMS' programs. Programa is a collaborative effort of CMS and Marillac Clinic in Palisade.

Programa's goal is to promote the overall well-being of migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families in Mesa County.

The major components of Programa are as follows:

  • Provide outreach and education to farm workers to help alleviate isolation and acculturative stress.
  • Connect workers to the Hospitality Center where they can receive social and emotional support and participate in health promoting activities.
  • Connect workers to other services that are essential for their well-being.
  • Sponsor a soccer team and a baseball team in order to provide workers access to community-wide recreational activities.
  • Connect workers to counseling at Marillac when necessary.
  • In partnership with Marillac, Mesa County Health Department, WestCap, Vocational Rehab and other volunteers, CMS helps facilitate medical screening and health education.
  • CMS and Marillac provide collaborative case management to workers and families that need extra support.
  • Provide transportation, translation and emotional support to workers who need to access care from specialists or hospitals in Grand Junction.
