Welcome to the website of Child & Migrant Services (CMS), a non-profit that serves migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families in Mesa County, Colorado. CMS is located in the town of Palisade, a beautiful, small town nestled in the midst of beautiful orchards and vineyards.
CMS is the vision of three women in 1954 who dedicated their lives to this great work. Their vision started around a kitchen table and led to the mobilization of local churches to provide basic needs for farm workers with a trailer.
Through this website, you can see the range of services CMS provides; more important, you will have a glimpse of the lives of migrant and seasonal farm workers in Colorado, their contribution to Western Colorado's economy and how much CMS means to them.
The Hospitality Center, where CMS is housed, is a welcoming community center. It is not just about having a home for those who have traveled far to work on the fields of Western Colorado. It is also about welcoming you to be a part of a community that is filled with sweats of hard work, aroma of ethnic food and culture, and the joy of giving and sharing. IMPORTANT: We have made one change on our vegetarian tamales. Instead of using spinach, we are now using mushrooms. We have also made some changes to improve the taste of the green chili sauce for both chicken and vegetarian tamales. Order now and taste the improved tamales for yourself!
Place your order by 5 p.m. on Thursdays and pick up in Palisade or Grand Junction the following week.
These tamales are prepared at the "Helping Hands Kitchen" at the Hospitality Center. They are authentic and delicious!!! But, don't take our word for it-try them for yourselves. You will benefit men and women who harvest our fields in Mesa County when you order these tamales.
